Scottish specialities: More than shortbread and scotch

Scottish whiskey, or Scotch, is known worldwide as one of the best whiskeys. But Scotland is also famous for other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Brewing beer, for example, is a Scottish tradition that goes back over 4000 years. One of the most traditional Scottish beers in our range is Tennents Lager. The Tennent family's history of brewing dates back to 1556 when Robert Tennent founded the brewery in Glasgow. Young independent breweries also produce beers of the highest quality in Scotland. The Innis & Gunn brewery has been brewing very special beers since 2003. These are not matured in just any barrels, but in special barrels in which rum or bourbon was previously stored. This special process gives Innis & Gunn's beers a soft note of caramel and vanilla, but also the flavor of rum and dark chocolate.

The most impressive success story is that of the young Brewdog brewery. In 2007, friends James Watt and Martin Dickie founded the brewery in Fraserburgh, a small coastal town in the Aberdeen region, which is now the largest independent brewery in Scotland.

IRN BRU - The Scottish soft drink makes you stronger

IRN BRU has been brewed in Glasgow since 1901. The name is derived from the iron content of the drink. It contains approx. 0.002% ammonium iron (III) citra, which is also used to treat iron deficiency anemia and which has been said to make strong since Popeye. Therefore, the Irn Bru logo not only hides the profile of an iron girder, but also a muscular man.

How Irn Bru tastes is difficult to describe. According to the manufacturer, it is a mixture of 32 flavors, the exact composition of which is so secret that the recipe is locked away in a Swiss bank safe. The color, on the other hand, is clearly bright orange. The best thing to do is to try a can yourself and be sure to order a whole pack of 24 next time.
